Mexico: Insurance penetration reaches strongest level in 2013

Insurance penetration in Mexico reached its strongest level ever in 2013 as direct premiums recorded in the country increased 6.7% in real terms during the year, Mexican newspaper El Financiero reported.

Insurance premiums as a percentage of GDP reached 2.1%, the highest level ever.

The insurance sector's net income totaled 22.9 billion Mexican pesos ($1.76 billion) during the fourth quarter of 2013.
