Lloyd’s Register has warned that fire-damaged tanker Maritime Maisie is at risk of breaking up if subjected to worsening weather, spilling an estimated 26,000 metric tons of chemicals into the ocean, Seatrade Global reported.
The vessel was involved in a collision near the port of Busan, South Korea, on Dec. 29, 2013, causing it to catch fire.
Lloyd’s Register's Ship Emergency Response Service said the vessel's maximum bending moment "exceeds estimated damage strength limits."
