India: Crops worth $8 billion lost every year because of pest, disease attacks

A study has said that pest and disease attacks lead to crops worth 500 billion Indian rupees ($8 billion) being lost every year in India, Business Standard reports.

A key factor for this damage is the low pesticide consumption in the country, the study said. It added that India's pesticide usage is limited to only one-fourth of the overall arable land of around 180 million hectares, Business Standard reported.
