General Motors recalling 780,000 cars in North America for faulty ignition switchReprints
General Motors Co. is recalling 780,000 older-model compact cars across North America to fix a problem related to a defective ignition switch that can cause crashes, the Associated Press reported.
The carmaker said there have been 22 crashes related to the glitch that have resulted in six deaths. The fault can cause the engine to shut off without warning and front air bags to fail, the AP reported. The faulty switch will be replaced free of cost. The timing of the recall is yet to be decided.
