546 million gallons of crude oil spilled into Niger Delta over last 50 years: NGOs

Non-governmental organizations said that around 546 million gallons of crude oil have been spilled into the Niger Delta in the last 50 years, ThisDay Live reported.

That’s the equivalent of 11 million gallons of oil per year. The organizations said that in 2011, the United Nations Environment Program reported that Nigeria's Ogoniland region might take 30 years to recover from damage caused by oil spills.
