Nigeria: Lack of responsibility for cargo damage at ports affect claims payments

Lack of responsibility by terminal port operators for damage or loss of goods within the terminal and refusal to issue acceptance document for liability are affecting insurance claims payments, insurers said.

Funsho Oladimeji, chairperson of Marine Committee of the Nigerian Insurers Association, said the insurance industry "is facing cases of losses paid to cargo owners that are never recovered by the insurers after payment," Business Day reported.

Ms. Oladimeji said insurers are facing losses of millions of naira.
