Kenya: Private sector chiefs urge government to bring in insurers offering agriculture covers

Kenya's private sector players have urged the government to bring in insurers that offer agriculture covers and learn from Mexico and Spain to establish a successful national agriculture insurance scheme, Kenyan daily The Star reported.

Former Vision 2030 director Wahome Gakuru said the last drought cost "about 900 billion Kenyan shillings ($10.46 billion) yet the response by the government only covers these costs to an extent of 1.7%."
