South Africa: Eight miners found dead after underground fire

Eight miners have been found dead in South Africa's Doornkop mine after an earthquake triggered an underground fire, Harmony Gold Mining Co. Ltd. said.

The National Union of Mineworkers said a falling rocks had ruptured electrical wires, causing the blaze, and ventilation and water pipes were also damaged, The Associated Press reported. In 2012, 112 deaths were recorded in mine operations, the Chamber of Mines said.
