BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

The overall number of charges filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission decreased in fiscal year 2013, but retaliation charges continued to be the most frequent accusation in number of charges and as a percentage of all charges, the agency said Wednesday.

The EEOC said 38,539 retaliation charges were brought under all statutes in fiscal 2013, which ended Sept. 30. That was a 1.9% increase from fiscal 2012 and accounted for 41.1% of all charges.

No. 2 was race discrimination, at 33,068 charges or 35.3% of the total; sex discrimination, including sexual harassment and pregnancy discrimination, at 27,687 charges, or 29.5%; and discrimination based on disability, at 29,957, or 27.7%.

Race and disability discrimination increased in the percentage of all charges in 2013 even though the number of charges declined, while charges of sex discrimination decreased by more than 2,600, the EEOC said.

The total number of charges received in 2013, at 93,727, was a 5.7% decrease from the total received in fiscal 2012.

Meanwhile, the agency received the highest monetary recovery in its history through its administrative process, recovering $372.1 million in fiscal 2013, a $6.7 million increase.
