Japan: GE, Toshiba and Hitachi sued over Fukushima nuclear disaster

Around 1,400 people have filed a lawsuit against Toshiba Corp., General Electric Co. and Hitachi Ltd., which manufactured the reactors at the disabled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan, The Voice of Russia reported.

The complainants said the companies should be financially liable for damage caused, citing failure on their part to ensure necessary safety improvements to the reactors.

The plaintiffs, who have sought a compensation of 100 Japanese yen ($0.97) each, said their main aim is not economic compensation, but awareness over the issue.
