Australia: Grampians bushfires in 2006 cost more than $514.4 million, says report

The cost of Grampians bushfires in 2006 exceeded $585 million Australian ($514.4 million), estimates an environmental lobby group.

Friends of the Earth is involved in a report, which is written by RMIT University student Tom Delbridge, that estimates $212.3 million Australian ($186.6 million) in private costs from the 2006 fires, The Standard reported.

The report said insurance payouts were about $28 million Australian ($24.6 million).
