Hong Kong bans live chicken sales after bird flu detection

Hong Kong has issued a ban on live chicken sales until Feb. 18 2014 after a sample imported from mainland China was found to be infected with H7N9 avian influenza virus, Bloomberg reported.

Hong Kong will also cull around 20,000 birds and strengthen inspections to stem a potential spreading of the disease.

Nineteen deaths have occurred so far in China in 2014 because of the H7N9 strain of bird flu, Bloomberg reported citing Xinhua News Agency.
