BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

California, New York health exchange enrollments growing rapidly

Enrollment in the two largest public state health insurance exchanges continues to grow rapidly.

California's exchange, known as Covered California and easily the largest state exchange set up under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, saw its enrollment leap by 125,000 during the first two weeks in January, state officials reported Tuesday.

About 625,000 state residents were enrolled as of Jan. 15, up from just over 500,000 on Dec. 31. As recently as the end of November, the California exchange had just over 107,000 enrollees.

Earlier independent estimates were that 487,000 to 686,000 residents would enroll in the exchange by March 31, Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee said in a statement.

'”The continued momentum in January tells us we are on track to meeting, if not beating, these enrollment estimates as we continue to pick up steam,” Mr. Lee said.

Enrollment in the New York exchange, known as the N.Y. State of Health, which is the second largest state exchange, also is growing rapidly. As of Jan. 20, the exchange had nearly 330,000 enrollees, an increase of about 100,000 since Dec. 24. At the end of the November, the exchange had just over 45,000 enrollees.

California exchange officials also reported that of the 500,000 individuals who had enrolled through the end of December, about 85% were eligible for federal premium subsidies because of low incomes.

About 31% of exchange enrollees opted for plans offered by Anthem Blue Cross of California, 29.6% were enrolled in plans offered by Blue Shield of California, 18.7% in Kaiser Permanente plans and 16.3% in plans offered by Health Net.
