Broker Risk Strategies buys Singer Nelson Charlmers

Boston-based brokerage Risk Strategies Co. has acquired broker Singer Nelson Charlmers based in Teaneck, N.J., Risk Strategies said Wednesday.

Terms of the deal announced Wednesday, which a spokeswoman said closed Dec. 31, were not disclosed.

Singer Nelson Charlmers focuses on professional liability, employee benefits and private client lines for architectural, engineering and law firms and client firms’ principals.

Singer Nelson Charlmers CEO David Singer is joining Risk Strategies as managing director, along with approximately 35 employees, according to the statement.

“The synergies between Singer Nelson Charlmers and Risk Strategies are striking and highly complementary, adding significant scale and expertise to our professional liability, employee benefits, and private client practices,” Michael Christian, CEO and founder of Risk Strategies, said in the statement.

Risk Strategies, which is backed New York-based private equity firm by Kohlberg & Co. L.L.C., has offices in Boston; Providence, R.I.; New York; Chicago; Los Angeles; San Francisco; and Irvine and Sacramento Calif., according to the statement.

“Joining the Risk Strategies team makes us part of a true national professional liability practice,” Mr. Singer said in the statement.

Risk Strategies is the 57th-largest broker of U.S. business, according to Business Insurance’s latest ranking.
