Canada: Extreme weather costs insurers $2.91 billion in 2013

Extreme weather resulted in Canada's insurers paying out $3.2 billion Canadian ($2.91 billion) in 2013, the Insurance Bureau of Canada said.

The industry group said the December 2013 ice storm resulted in more than $200 million Canadian ($182.4 million) in claims, Global News reported.

The floods across southern Alberta in June 2013 cost insurers $1.74 billion Canadian ($1.58 billion) collectively.

The July 2013 heavy rainfall in Toronto led to $940 million Canadian ($857.3 million) in claims, the industry group said.
