Philippines: Oil spill victims file civil suit against government agencies

A 20.3 million Philippine peso ($450,660) civil suit has been filed against government agencies by residents of a coastal community affected by an oil spill, Inquirer Visayas reported.

The complainants accused the agencies of "gross negligence" by failing to adopt precautionary measures before the onslaught of Super Typhoon Haiyan.

About 900,000 liters of bunker fuel spilled into the sea when Napocor-operated Power Barge 103 smashed against the rocky shores of Botongon at the height of Haiyan.
