Australia: Damage from fire expected to exceed $17.9 million

Damage from a fire that destroyed 55 houses in the hills, east of Perth, Australia, is expected to surpass $20 million Australian ($17.9 million), ABC reported.

The fire started when a power pole fell, causing a short circuit.

Western Power Corp. said the fire damaged 140 poles and six kilometers of power lines. The electricity supplier added that more than 450 properties are without power.
