Forest fires in Chile up 98%

Chile has witnessed 98% increase in forest fires so far this season, compared with the same period of the last season, the Chilean Wood Corp. said.

Statistics have shown there were 1,102 fires between Maule and Los Lagos so far in the 2013-2014 season, compared with 512 fires at the same period of last season, Lesprom Network reported.

Damage has increased seventeen fold, with around 5,521 hectares being affected, compared with 329 hectares at the same period of last season.
