Japan: Panel estimates massive earthquake in Tokyo will halve power supply

A major earthquake in Tokyo, Japan, will cause significant damage to power, telecommunications and waterworks infrastructure and leave half of Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s customers without electricity, estimates the government's disaster panel, reports The Japan Times citing Jiji Press.

The panel recently said there is a 70% probability of a magnitude-7 earthquake striking Tokyo "in the next 30 years."
