China: 8.3 million acres of farmland polluted, says minister

Wang Shiyuan, deputy minister of China's Ministry of Land and Resources, said more than 8 million acres of the country's farmland is too polluted for farming, The Associated Press reported.

Mr. Shiyuan said investigations by the Ministry of Environmental Protection have revealed "moderate to severe pollution" on 8.3 million acres, The Associated Press reported. He said "these areas cannot continue farming."
