India: Kerala considers comprehensive insurance for disasters

Kerala is considering designing a Comprehensive Insurance Policy for catastrophe-affected people in the state, The Hindu reported.

K.G. Thara, head of the Institute of Land and Disaster Management, said at present there is no policy "that considers all aspects and all types of disasters."

Mr. Thara said "sea erosion and lightning are not considered disasters" in the national government's list, whereas in Kerala, "a large number of deaths occur due to these."
