Insurance claims from Costa Concordia disaster set to touch $2 billion

Total insurance claims from the capsizing of Costa Concordia off the Italian coast in January 2012 is set to touch $2 billion in 2014 because of difficulties faced during the salvage of the ship, insurance experts have said.

To date, insurers have paid out more than $1 billion, The Independent reported.

Carsten Scheffel, chief executive of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty S.E., said "this will be one of the biggest single marine insurance losses in history."
