Cambodia: Strike could cost garment sector millions of dollars

An ongoing protest is expected to cost Cambodia's garment sector millions of dollars as unions predict workers from 300 factories will embark on strike, interviews with suppliers and figures from past periods of labor unrest reveal.

The fallout could damage the country's reputation among foreign buyers, The Phnom Penh Post reported. Cheat Khemara, senior officer at Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia, said locally owned garment manufacturers were at much higher risk of business failure than larger manufacturers.
