U.K.: Fierce storm hits northern Britain, disrupts transport services

Storm Xaver disrupted transport services and cut power supplies in northern Britain before blasting towards mainland Europe, Reuters reported.

Two people were killed in Britain and one in western Denmark. Train services in Scotland were cancelled, while trains in the northern Netherlands were halted. North Sea oil and gas producers halted production and evacuated staff from some platforms. British authorities had warned of "the most serious coastal tidal surge for over 60 years in England".
