Seraina Maag has been named the new president and CEO of American International Group Inc.'s Europe, Middle East and Africa region, effective Nov. 11, AIG announced Friday.
Ms. Maag previously was chief executive of XL Group P.L.C.'s North American property/casualty unit and also held global responsibility for excess casualty and surety.
In a statement, AIG said that in her new job, Ms. Maag will oversee the insurance businesses in the 47 countries that comprise AIG's EMEA region. She will be based in London and report directly to Peter D. Hancock, CEO of AIG Property Casualty.
Ms. Maag succeeds Nicholas Walsh, who has been serving as the region's interim head since April. Mr. Walsh will resume his role as vice chairman for AIG Property Casualty.
“I am delighted to welcome Seraina to AIG,” Mr. Hancock said in the statement. “With her strong insurance background, proven leadership skills and global perspective, I am confident she will be an invaluable asset to our business.”
Before joining XL, Ms. Maag was president of Zurich North America Commercial's specialties business unit.
Ms. Maag was one of Business Insurance's 2009 Women to Watch.
