BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

$400M in insured losses expected from Amarillo, Texas, hailstorm

Insured losses from a May 28 hailstorm that hit Amarillo, Texas, are expected to reach $400 million, according to the Insurance Council of Texas.

In a statement Monday, the council said the storm damaged an estimated 35,000 vehicles and thousands of homes as it passed through the center of the city, dropping hail as big as baseballs.

The council cited statements from local roofers who described the damage as the worst they’d seen in the area in their experience.

Because of the May storm’s size, the resulting losses are expected to exceed those from a June 2004 hailstorm that held the previous record for the largest losses from such a storm in Amarillo at more than $175 million.
