BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

Bermuda eliminates work permit term limits for non-Bermudians

The government of Bermuda on Wednesday said it has eliminated its work permit term limit policy for non-Bermudian workers, effective immediately.

The suspension of the term limits, which allowed expatriates to work in Bermuda for a maximum of nine years, will help the country's large contingent of captive and reinsurance companies attract top talent, insurance industry experts say.

The controversial policy, effective in 2001, intended to prevent permit approval from leading to permanent residence rights for non-Bermudians.

“We believe that the elimination of the policy will help spark economic growth and create employment opportunities for Bermudians,” Bermuda Minister of Home Affairs and Senate Leader Michael M. Fahy said in a statement.

“After much deliberation, input and feedback, I wish to announce that the government has decided to move forward with the elimination of the term limit policy with immediate effect.”

At year-end 2011, 862 captives were licensed in Bermuda.

There are 8,000 non-Bermudians in the workforce, according to Bermuda's government website.
