Spencer Educational Foundation raises $720,000 at annual gala

The Spencer Educational Foundation Inc. raised more than $720,000 Wednesday night at the organization’s annual gala at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

Proceeds from the event will fund scholarships for students and professionals studying risk management and insurance as well as universities committed to advancing the study of risk and insurance.

The event drew more than 500 attendees to support the Spencer Foundation and recognize Seraina Maag, chief executive-North America property/casualty for XL Group P.L.C., and David Zuercher, retired chairman of Wells Fargo Insurance Services Inc. and executive vice president and head of the insurance services group for Wells Fargo & Co., for their contributions to the advancement of risk management and insurance education.

The Spencer Educational Foundation was founded in 1979 to honor the late Robert S. Spencer, a former president of the Risk & Insurance Management Society Inc. Since 1979, the Spencer Foundation has awarded more than $4.7 million in scholarships to undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate students and risk managers, and has provided more than $2.1 million in grants.
