Oklahoma Senate OKs bill allowing alternative workers comp system

OKLAHOMA CITY—The Oklahoma Senate voted 28-17 Wednesday in favor of H.B. 2155, a bill that would allow certain companies to exempt themselves from the state’s workers compensation system.
Oklahoma would become the second state to adopt an alternative workers comp system if H.B. 2155 is signed into law. The bill has been returned to the Oklahoma House of Representatives for consideration.
Fred Morgan, president of the State Chamber of Oklahoma, praised the bill’s passage in a statement Wednesday.
“This legislation would give employers in Oklahoma another option to the state system, which has been rated one of the worst and most expensive systems in the country,” he said.
