After setting up an elaborate accident scene in pursuit of a workers compensation payout, a Target Brands Inc. store worker blew her alleged scam by failing to check for surveillance cameras.
Security camera video shows the New Jersey Target worker repeatedly banging her head with a handful of batteries and washing down crackers with a beverage before kneeling down and vomiting them up.
But that was only part of her accident setup, according to a report on the recent indictment of Victoria Colon of Union City, N.J.
The customer-service worker at a North Bergen, N.J., Target store claimed a box she was hauling banged a shelf, causing other boxes to fall on her head and neck. She also claimed that caused her to vomit.
But the security video allegedly shows her arranging a storeroom shelf so the boxes it held would fall. She then arranged the containers around her before pulling a shopping cart with other items on top of her.
She also banged her head with the batteries and left the scene at one point, returning with the crackers and beverage before restaging the scene and then photographing it.
Ms. Colon is out on bond after authorities arrested her. But she faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of workers comp fraud.
