BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

MMIC Group to use RRG to cover medical liability exposures

MINNEAPOLIS—Medical liability insurer MMIC Group Inc. will use a risk retention group formed last year to allow it to cover medical liability exposures outside of MMIC's eight-state core territory.

The risk retention group, MMIC RRG Inc., was licensed last May in the District of Columbia.

MMIC is offering clients based in the eight Midwestern states in which it is licensed and actively writing new business—Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin—the option of using the RRG to meet the medical liability needs of professionals they employ in other states.

In a statement, Gerald O’Connell, vp, alternative risk transfer solutions, at Minneapolis-based MMIC, said the company is in the process of registering the RRG to write business in several states.

“This is intended to provide us and our policyholders with flexibility in certain specific cases,” Mr. O'Connell said. “If we intend to seriously expand in a state outside of our current territory, we will become licensed and admitted in that state.”
