Journalist Bob Woodward of Watergate fame will give the keynote address at the Alexandria, Va.-based National Assn. of Professional Insurance Agents' Federal Legislative Summit next month.
"This year's PIA summit occurs as professional insurance agents face new challenges. Fortunately, the environment on Capitol Hill has undergone a transformation which may benefit our issues," said PIA National President Fred Thomas, in a statement announcing the summit.
PIA members will urge lawmakers to support legislation that would exempt health insurance agent commissions from the medical loss ratio formula used by the government to determine allowable expenses under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. PIA members will also advocate reforming the National Flood Insurance Program and reiterate their opposition to optional federal charters for insurance.
The summit will take place March 30-31.
