N.Y. workers comp board proposes 30% hike for doctors

September 2, 2010 - 10:27am

ALBANY, N.Y.—The New York State Workers' Compensation Board on Wednesday proposed a 30% increase in workers compensation medical provider fees.

Health care providers treating injured workers have not seen a rate adjustment since 1996, Workers' Compensation Board Chairman Robert Beloten said in a statement.

“I believe that these actions will help the board recruit and retain the best doctors in New York, helping to ensure injured workers receive swift, quality medical care now and into the future,” Mr. Beloten said in the statement.

The Workers' Compensation Board has not completed an evaluation of the cost impact for the proposed increase, a spokesman said. The proposal still must undergo the normal regulation processes, which include a public comment period and comprehensive review, he said.

A date for public comment has not been finalized but could come in December, according to the spokesman.
