DALLAS—Two Dallas Cowboys employees injured in the May 2009 collapse of a practice facility during a thunderstorm will receive about $34 million in a settlement with companies that owned the complex.
An attorney for scouting assistant Richard Behm and special teams coach Joe DeCamillis said Tuesday that the settlement finalized last Friday ends their claims against Blue Star Development Co. and Cowboys Center Ltd., companies that own the Valley Ranch site in Irving, Texas.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones owns both companies.
“While claims are still pending against the building’s engineers, we are very pleased to have this portion of the lawsuit settled,” Frank L. Branson, the attorney for the employees from the Law of Offices of Frank L. Branson, said in a statement.
In May, Messrs. Behm and DeCamillis reached a settlement with the manufacturer of structures at the site, Summit Structures L.L.C. of Allentown, Pa., and its parent, Cover-All Building Systems Inc. of Saskatoon, Canada. Cover-All was acquired by Norseman Group Ltd. in Saskatoon in June.
Under the two settlements, Mr. Behm and his family will receive more than $24 million, and Mr. DeCamillis and his family will receive more than $9 million, Mr. Branson said.
Mr. Behm was paralyzed from the waist down in the accident. Mr. DeCamillis suffered a broken neck. Both still work for the Cowboys.
