BUENOS AIRES, Argentina—Lloyd’s of London insurance group Chaucer Holdings P.L.C. said Monday that it has opened an office in Buenos Aires, Argentina, offering facultative property coverage through syndicate 1084.

Chaucer said its Latin American operations will be headed by Uwe Fischer, formerly head of the Latin American operations of Zug, Switzerland-based Glacier Reinsurance A.G.

Mr. Fischer is general manager of the office, which will underwrite business effective Oct. 1, and will be joined by two other former Glacier staff, Alejandro Ferrin and Guido Wolman.

“Building on their extensive property facultative capabilities, we are confident that we can develop a high quality and successful business in Latin America,” Chaucer CEO Bob Stuchberry said in a statement.
