DORKING, England—Unum Group said Monday that it has named Jack McGarry as president and CEO of Unum U.K.

Mr. McGarry, who is relocating from Portland, Maine, to Dorking, England, will oversee Unum’s U.K. operations, pending approval by the U.K. Financial Services Authority, the Chattanooga, Tenn.-based insurer said in a statement.

He succeeds Susan Ring, who joined the insurer in 1995 and will remain in an advisory capacity until February 2011.

Mr. McGarry joined Unum in 1986 and has held various senior management posts, most recently as senior vp of benefits and risk management in Portland.
