PEMBROKE, Bermuda—PartnerRe Ltd. said Monday that Emmanuel Clarke has been named CEO of PartnerRe Global, effective Sept. 1.

Based in Zurich, Mr. Clarke succeeds Costas Miranthis, who has been named PartnerRe’s top executive and will replace Patrick Thiele as CEO on Jan. 1, 2011, the Pembroke, Bermuda-based insurer said in a statement.

Mr. Clarke, who joined the insurer in 1997 and held various senior management posts, most recently as head of specialty lines, global and deputy CEO of PartnerRe Global, will oversee all of its underwriting operations outside of North America.

PartnerRe also named William Babcock as executive vp and chief finance officer, effective Oct. 1. Mr. Babcock joined PartnerRe in 2008 as group finance director and will be based in Pembroke.

In another appointment, Marvin Pestcoe in Greenwich, Conn., was named as CEO of PartnerRe Capital Markets Group. Mr. Pestcoe has been with the insurer since 2001, most recently as deputy head of capital markets group and head of capital assets. He will remain in Greenwich.

Messrs. Babcock and Pestcoe succeed Albert Benchimol, who will retire Dec. 31 after 10 years with the insurer, according to the statement.
