BOSTON—David H. Long has been named president of Liberty Mutual Group effective July 1, the Boston-based insurer said Wednesday. He succeeds Edmund F. Kelly, who will remain the company’s chairman and CEO.

Mr. Long, executive vp of Liberty Mutual Group and president of Liberty International, will continue to lead the insurer’s international business unit while assuming responsibilities as president of Liberty Mutual Group, the insurer said in a statement.
