MUNICH—Munich-based insurer Allianz S.E. said it expects at least €100 million ($136.1 million) in losses from Xynthia, the deadly windstorm that battered parts of Europe in late February.
The storm, which killed more than 60 people in five countries, is expected to generate insured losses of up to €3 billion ($4.09 billion), Boston-based catastrophe modeling company AIR Worldwide Corp. estimated.
A spokeswoman for Munich-based Allianz said Friday that losses from Xynthia are expected to be “in the low triple-digit millions” of euros.
The storm hit France particularly hard, with most of the deaths and the largest proportion of damage in that country. The storm also battered parts of Belgium, Germany, Portugal and Spain.
