WORKINGTON, England—Claims are pouring in from flooding in England and Scotland that could cost insurers as much as £100 million ($165.1 million).
Heavy rains since late last week have caused bridges to collapse and have damaged more than 1,000 homes. At least one person has died since the flooding began: a policeman killed in a bridge collapse in Workington, England.
Insurers are likely to see claims of £50 million ($82.5 million) to £100 million, a spokeswoman for the Assn. of British Insurers in London said.
Flooding has been particularly devastating in England’s Cumbria region, and flood warnings remained in effect Monday for much of that area and others inundated by heavy rains.
