Mr. Haas, who will be based in the specialty property/casualty insurer’s office in Cologne, Germany, will be responsible for the execution of Catlin’s underwriting operation across continental Europe. He previously held positions with Generali Worldwide Insurance Co. Ltd. and Jauch & Hubener KGaA, a large German insurance brokerage and consulting firm.

Meanwhile, Hamilton, Bermuda-based Catlin earlier this week said Benjamin Meuli has been appointed to the group’s board of directors, effective Thursday. Further, Mr. Meuli will become Catlin’s chief financial officer later this year after the departure of Christopher Stooke, who announced he was leaving Catlin in June.

Mr. Meuli previously served as Swiss Reinsurance Co.’s chief investment officer and member of its executive board from 2004 to 2008.

Mr. Meuli will be subject to election to the Catlin board of directors by shareholders at the group’s annual meeting in 2010.
