BI’s Article search uses Boolean search capabilities. If you are not familiar with these principles, here are some quick tips.

To search specifically for more than one word, put the search term in quotation marks. For example, “workers compensation”. This will limit your search to that combination of words.

To search for a combination of terms, use quotations and the & symbol. For example, “hurricane” & “loss”.

U.K. court to consider nonfatal asbestos claims

MANCHESTER, England--A British court on Monday will begin hearing a test case to determine appropriate compensation for U.K. workers who develop a benign medical condition related to asbestos exposure.

The case, to be heard in Manchester High Court, seeks to clarify the extent to which asbestos-related lung scars known as pleural plaques should be compensable, according to the U.K. Department of Trade and Industry. The DTI manages the liabilities--including asbestos liabilities--of former public company British Ship Builders, which brought the case along with Aviva P.L.C. unit Norwich Union and Zurich Financial Services Group.

Medical research has determined that pleural plaques do not cause any symptoms or develop into more serious asbestos-related conditions such as mesothelioma, a Zurich spokesman noted.

Asbestos claimants' lawyers are contesting the case.
