White Mountains Insurance Group Ltd. reported net income of $95.5 million for the first quarter of 2004, down 6.5% from the same period in 2003. The Hamilton, Bermuda-based company, which has several insurance and reinsurance operating units, reported gross revenues of $1.02 billion, a 5.5% increase over the same period last year....London-based Goshawk Insurance Holdings P.L.C. has renamed its Bermuda-based reinsurance subsidiary as Rosemont Reinsurance Ltd. Goshawk said that the name change, from Goshawk Re, was intended to differentiate the reinsurer from Goshawk's discontinued London operations....Maine Gov. John Baldacci has signed into law a bill that creates domestic partnerships for same-sex and heterosexual couples....The California Assembly has approved legislation that would enable victims of gender discrimination to recover damages of up to five times the amount of lost wages from their employers. The bill, A.B. 2317, has been sent to the California Senate for consideration....Nicholas J. Metcalf, chief executive officer of XL London Market Ltd., a unit of XL Capital Ltd., has resigned to "pursue other business interests," XL announced. No successor has been named.
