White Mountains' reports nine-month gains

HAMILTON, Bermuda--White Mountains Insurance Group Ltd. reported profits of $889.2 million for the first nine months of 2002, compared with a loss of $132.8 million in the same period last year.

The net income figure for the first nine months of this year includes $667 million of net deferred credits associated with the adoption of new accounting standards.

White Mountains reported total revenues of $3.16 billion for the first nine months of 2002, compared with $2.05 billion during the same period in 2001.

White Mountains is a Bermuda-domiciled financial services holding company. Its units include OneBeacon Insurance Group, Folksamerica Holding Co. Inc. and Fund America Reinsurance Co. Ltd.
