Pierre Lefevre has been named chairman and chief executive officer of Groupama Insurances, the London-based subsidiary of Groupama-GAN S.A. of Paris. Formerly, Mr. Lefevre was chairman of the executive board of AXA Netherlands B.V. Last month, the planned sale of Groupama Insurances was called off, and Jean-Paul Bouquin, Groupama's group director of planning and control, took temporary control of the company....The St. Paul Cos. Inc. has appointed Jerome T. Fadden as CEO of the St. Paul, Minn.-based company's St. Paul Re unit. He replaces James F. Duffy, who is retiring. Mr. Fadden joins St. Paul Re from UBS PaineWebber Inc., where he had been executive vp and director of strategic development in the office of the chairman....The House Judiciary Committee approved the business-backed Class Action Fairness Act by a 16-10 vote Thursday. The measure, which enjoys bipartisan support, would permit defendants and plaintiffs in interstate class actions to move the cases to federal court from state courts under some circumstances....Former Sen. Howard Cannon, D-Nev., who played a pivotal role in the passage of the original Risk Retention Act of 1981, died Monday in a Las Vegas hospice. He was 90.
