Food delivery platforms fined for breaching labor rules

Prosecutors in Italy have fined local operations of four food delivery platforms, including U.S.-based Uber Eats, €733 million ($894 million) for violating labor safety rules and said delivery riders were employees and not independent contractors, SBS reported. Prosecutors said over 60,000 couriers who worked for these platforms during 2017-2020 must be offered non-permanent contracts with fixed pay and past social security and insurance payments.
