South Korea: Regulator plans to expand disaster insurance cover for public facilities

South Korea's Financial Services Commission has said that it is considering expanding disaster insurance coverage for public facilities such as bridges, tunnels, railroads, subways and hospitals, among others, The Korea Times reported.

The government has been looking to reduce the mandatory insurance threshold for publicly used spaces to 2,000 square meters from the present 3,000 square meters. The planned new standards will cover fires, blasts and collapses, but will exclude war and earthquakes.
