House subcommittee to probe meatpacking virus outbreaks

A subcommittee in the U.S. House of Representatives will investigate COVID-19 outbreaks at meatpacking plants over the past year.

The Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis announced Monday that it has sent letters to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, as well as meatpacking companies Tyson Foods Inc., Smithfield Foods Inc. and JBS USA Holdings Inc., asking for documents related to COVID-19 infections and deaths at the meatpacking plants and their enforcement of worker protections from the virus.
