For now, MLB likely to tell older coaches ‘you’re out!’

Older Major League Baseball coaches and managers are being benched over COVID-19 risk, according to an article on Deadspin.com this week.
The Minnesota Twins on Monday became the first MLB team to sideline “at-risk” coaches for the season due to COVID-19, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, writing that coaches Bill Evers, 66, and Bob McClure, 68, would not coach in this year’s truncated season after two players tested positive for the virus.
Pitching the argument that older individuals tend to suffer greater from infections, the website points out that there will likely be “few grey-haired managers, coaches, and staff” in dugouts, as data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that 80% of COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. are among those 65 and older.
Deadspin.com also reported that a total of 41 managers and coaches were born before 1960, putting many in their 60s and up.
