Florida to increase maximum wage for injured workers

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity announced that the statewide average weekly wage paid to injured workers by employers will be $939 starting Jan. 1.
The latest figure is a 2.4% increase over the $917 wage set for 2019, according to information on the state’s Division of Workers’ Compensation website.
The increase is in line with Florida law, which states that for injuries occurring on or after Aug. 1, 1979, the weekly compensation wage shall be equal to 100% of the statewide average weekly wage, adjusted to the nearest dollar, and that the average weekly wage determined by the Department of Economic Opportunity for the four calendar quarters ending each June 30 shall be used in determining the maximum weekly compensation rate with respect to injuries occurring in the calendar year immediately following, according to a bulletin posted Monday.
